Low carb, high protein bars

Have a go at making your own protein bars. No nasty ingredients and ready to go whenever you need them. This makes 9 bars and is around 16g of protein and 7g of carbs

Ingredients

  • 170g or 1 jar nut butter

  • 1-2 cups water

  • Vanilla extract

  • Monk fruit sweetener to taste (optional)

  • ½ tspn salt

  • 1 tspn cinnamon

  • 4 scoops vanilla protein powder (I used Nuzest)

  • ¼ cup hemp seeds

  • ¼ cup ground almonds

  • ¼ cup ground flax

  • 3 egg whites

Steps

  1. Melt almond butter, sweetener, cinnamon, salt and water until smooth.

  2. Remove from heat and add rest of dry ingredients.

  3. Add whisked egg whites

  4. When it looks like a very thick cake batter, decant to square lined baking tin and add toppings such as seeds, nuts and chocolate chips. If too thick add more water, if runny add more ground almonds or hemp.

  5. Bake at 180c for 20 mins until lightly brown. Remove and chill. Cut chilled for ease into 9 squares
